Pygmalion was a Greek Cypriot sculptor who was disillusioned with women. He started work on a statue of a woman, and as he worked, his love for it grew, becoming obsessed with its beauty. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, rewarded Pygmalion’s devotion to Aphrodite by granting the statue life. Pygmalion and Galatea were later married and from this union Paphos was born.
