about Scott Erb

Male

Over the course of three decades, I have dedicated myself to capturing the human form through the medium of photography. Throughout this extensive period, I have employed numerous techniques and processes, continually refining my skills and collaborating with exceptional individuals to manifest my artistic vision. My artistic journey has encompassed a progression from an a commercial advertising photographer to an art photographer, each step contributing to the honing of my abilities and the evolution of my work. It is through persistent effort and unwavering commitment that I have been able to conceive and actualize numerous fine art portfolios over the years.

While my body of work has embraced various concepts, one overarching concept remains central: the celebration of the beauty inherent in the human form. My life's purpose is to cultivate and disseminate beauty through my creations, offering solace and delight to those who engage with my art. In a world often fraught with negativity, I perceive my role as a creator to be one of bestowing beauty and joy upon others, thereby fulfilling my ultimate objective. As an artist, I derive profound fulfillment from the act of crafting aesthetically pleasing artworks.

Each portfolio I conceive stands apart from its predecessors, distinguished by the materials employed, the lighting techniques employed, and the underlying conceptual framework. Constantly delving into the recesses of my mind for novel ideas and exploring emerging techniques and materials, I revel in the process of perpetual learning and experimentation. The ever-advancing realm of software, the evolving landscape of camera technology, and a myriad of other factors inspire me to remain at the forefront of innovation. Much like my cherished musical ensembles, who continually challenge the boundaries of their craft, I am perpetually driven to explore uncharted territories, constantly conceiving new works while seeking out novel processes and materials with which to work.

I derive immense pleasure from manipulating light and embracing the possibilities it affords. Frequently, I engage in the exploration of new lighting concepts, although I gravitate towards a preference for juxtaposing darkness with luminous skin tones in much of my work. Recently, however, I have ventured beyond the confines of the studio and have ventured into the southwestern landscapes, seeking to unite the splendor of nature with the grace of the human form. This new endeavor presents a novel and captivating experience, as I strive to maintain my affinity for darkness even within these new environments. Often, I opt to shoot during the twilight hours, capturing the enchanting moments when the sun dips below the horizon and its fading rays intermingle with the remaining light.

Through my artistic endeavors, I aspire to evoke a primal sense of awe that emanates from the depths of darkness—a domain both mystical and unknown. As humans, we can collectively apprehend the allure and significance of twilight, a transient state leading to various realms, including deep slumber and, perhaps, trepidation. By manipulating these ideas within my work, I aim to elicit an aura of mystery and contemplation, transcending the objectification of the human body to instead elevate it as a vessel of intrinsic artistic necessity. It is my intention to stimulate emotions, ignite introspection, and elicit appreciation through the embodiment of pure beauty.
