about Excelsior
Male
I strive to create emotionally resonant work. I generally prefer lean, austere images with no extraneous details.
I am more interested in creating meaningful images than beautiful ones. Prior to being disabled in 1997, I worked for 25 years as a writer and editor. Because of my journalism background, I tend to make my images true and accurate. They are often not literally true, but I do make them emotionally true.
Due to long-term illness, my walking is very limited, so all my work is done indoors. I can't provide elaborate sets.
Multiple exhibitions in New Mexico, California, Massachusetts, Virginia, New York, New Jersey and Canada. Published in “Black & White' magazine, 'Pasatiempo,' 'Photoshop User magazine,' public television and other venues. My botanical images have been sold in the gift shop of the New Mexico Museum of Fine Art in Santa Fe.
Favorite photographers include Elizabeth Gadd, Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans and Karsh of Ottawa.
Most of my work involves the elderly. If interested, there is an 8-minute video about it posted on YouTube on Jan. 20, 2025, on "The Cole & John Photo Show."
Thank you for the comment on this photograph. When I have such a beautiful women to work with it makes me a better photographer...and a happy one.
Thank You!

What a wonderful and dynamic body of work. Very inspiring!
Hi, I am in Australia, and I have been asked to address the Australian Photographic Judges Association on "Judging Fine Art Images". It is my intention to present them with the finest examples of the genre, and to that end I seek your permission to submit "Shadow Dancing" with Nadia Ruslanova for their edification. Your beautiful work will be fully attributed.
