about CharlieM

Female

I am a full time student researching a PhD degree in History of Art.

I used to be a full time commercial photographer shooting for household name clients, but I discovered that it wasn't what I really wanted to do and instead I prefer to write about photography and art rather than make it myself. My aim is to complete a PhD and write for the big art magazines, but at this time I keep myself busy and the ducets rolling in by writing for photography magazines. I cover everything from interviews with wedding photographers to technical articles about photography.

My ideas for photographs I'd like to shoot myself are often fantastical and loaded with allegory. I find myself inspired by great artists such as Titian and Rubens, but as such I really can't afford to make my ideas a reality. However I always like a beautiful and striking face in black and white and I reckon I might even be able to shoot that kind of stuff in my student bedroom. Maybe. I'm always on a quest for the portrait that will win the Taylor Wessing Prize at the National Portrait Gallery, although so far I have of course been unsuccessful.

I'm a great lover of the eccentric and projects with some degree of this will often catch my eye and tempt me.

Based in Oxford but frequently found hanging around the art galleries in London. Always up for a few hours shooting in town, especially if you buy this skint student some noodles from EAT or Wagamamas for lunch.
