I am a surgeon and a photographer. It probably seems a little crazy at first to see a surgeon who aspires to be a photographer. But when I think about it, the two disciplines are very much alike. Both are grounded in science. Yet mastery of the physics of light and the structure of composition alone does not make a photographer. Just as mastery of anatomy, biology and biomechanics by themselves does not make one a surgeon. Photography and surgery must each be infused with equal parts science, art, vision and humanity before one can create a beautiful image or help a patient to heal.
