about Frank Leonard
Male
As a landscape, nude figure, and astronomical photographer, I most enjoy representing the female form not "in" nature, but "as" nature. I currently have two major bodies of work, "The Nude As Nature," and "Celestial Bodies.""The Nude As Nature" images show the beauty of the female form in all kinds of landscape settings, including rivers, desert, mountains, and sea. In the words of Kirby Scudder, from the Santa Cruz Institute of Contemporary Art, 'In Frank's work the model might occupy a tiny portion of the image. The human eye starts on the very human curves of the model, but the eye then comes to rest on the ripples of a river, or the eroded surfaces of a desert rock, or wide expanses of sky.'
The "Celestial Bodies" images are composites of my landscape, figure, and astronomical photography, and are unlike anything I have ever created previously.
In my photographs I invite you to see not only the model, but also yourself, as an intricate, beautiful, interwoven expression of nature, mother earth, and the vast ocean of which we are all one seamless being.
Beautiful, beautiful work.
So much love for your environmental nudes, I look forward to following your journey xo
