about Mariana

Female

Mariana J. Plick reifies the ethereal. As a model, contortionist, aerialist, fire performer, performance artist, new choreographer, emerging director, and writer, this artist evokes the elegance of articulation with strategy. She studied contemporary circus at Circus Warehouse in an intensive professional training program. She models with D2 Models based out of LA. Her circus career began in Philadelphia with the Squidling Brothers Circus Side Show, and Phantasmagoria Circus Side Show, which she co-founded and directed in 2011. Upon receipt of press coverage on NBC New York, the City Paper, and front cover stories in both The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Philadelphia Weekly, Mariana transferred to New York. There Mariana studied ballet with program director Suzi Winson, as well as contortion, and aerial acrobatics under the mentorship of Susan Voyticky, Ken Berkeley, Adam Woolley, Anna Venizelos, Olga Karmansky, Maia Ramnath, Miquel Caçeras, and others. Mariana was trained in the techniques of Theater of the Oppressed by Julien Boal and Marie-Claire Picher at The Brecht Forum. Her first full length production, the movement narrative Cirque Skeletique, debuted at The Hive NYC, which she produced, directed, wrote, choreographed, performed, casted, and otherwise designed. Her choreography was shown at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Baltimore Museum of Art. She has performed hundreds of feet in the air at the 69th Regiment Armory, underground at Rubulad, at Coney Island Circus Side Show, Maryland Institute of Contemporary Art, The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, Robot Heart, the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Goddard College, Circus Warehouse, with a death metal band called From Hell, and The Shrine Circus.
