about Little Sodus Studio
My name is Jim Thurn. I'm a book and paper conservator by profession. I attended the University of Texas at Austin, at the former Kilgarlin Center for Preservation of the Cultural Record, where I earned a Master of Science in Information Studies with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Conservation of Library and Archive Materials. This coursework has since been supplemented with classes in bookbinding and book conservation taught by a conservator in private practice. Studio art courses have been completed at The Art League of Alexandria, Scottsdale Artists' School, Woodstock School of Art, and sculpture workshops in clay figure and portraiture in Upstate, New York.
Much of my time is spent creating art, bookbindings, and protective enclosures. My art is created using pencil, charcoal, pen-and-ink, silverpoint, watercolor, and oil. My bookbindings and protective enclosures are created using conservation-grade, archival materials.
