about Iain Macpherson
Male
My sculpture is about thought, and capture of light, vaguely shifting forms, fashion, resonance and meaning, with respect to a modernity and temporality. In my use of shadow (literally and metaphorically) it is sometimes dangerous, think Film-Noir, Femme Fatale, lies and injustice. I hope in my teaching I explore poetic gestures and simplicity, the emotional truth, which we try to define visually. Is it fundamental and important? What is a a truth-to-material approach and how to judge the overall understanding, the gestalt (feeling) experienced by the viewer. I categorise myself as an Arte Povera artist, someone who takes ordinary materials and sculpts them in a transformative and thoughtful visual way, creating golden moments that are the basis of change. As an installation artist, I am influenced by the spatial and contextual circumstances put in front of me.
Stunning photos. Would love to work together if you ever make it to Florida!
